Our story
TAM Artists started as “Thou Art Mum”, a Banyule, Diamond Valley and Nillumbik-based network of female visual artists who collaborated to create dynamic group exhibitions for the enjoyment of friends, family, and the local and wider community.
A Brief History
Established in March 2005 by Katiuska Cruz, the aim was to create a network that allowed artists who were mothers, to support each other in putting together enough pieces for a show, working around the busy schedules and challenges of motherhood. As a collective, more opportunities could be accessed by exhibiting together.
Today
Twenty plus years on, the group have collaborated on numerous exhibitions within the local community and around the wider Melbourne area, usually managing a couple of different exhibitions each year. As our members practice a diversity of disciplines including painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, glasswork, ceramics and photography, we will usually work to a common theme which helps to give a unified thread to our work.
Besides organising and hosting exhibitions, the group will sometimes meet to visit art galleries, or learn new skills from each other, such as new printing techniques, felting or cyanotype. Our regular meetings provide opportunities to hear about up-and-coming shows and to chat about all things art with fellow artists.
We are always happy to have a chat if you have an interest in joining.
