Trudy Fitzmaurice

I was very fortunate to grow up on a farm in New Zealand with lots of surrounding lush country side and bushland. I have many fond memories of roaming over farmland, losing track of time and exploring through this wonderful natural environment.

Growing up I focused on sports mainly, art was definitely something I enjoyed but I didn’t spend a lot of time practising this in my early days.

I travelled to Australia in 1988; family life had a way of taking me away from my artwork. As my kids got older, I found myself wanting to draw again, I experimented with pastels for while and joined the Thou Art Mums art group to help me focus and have something to work towards.

I was inspired by artist Jessica Page who has created beautiful pieces of art with ballpoint pen. I fell in love with her pictures and that’s where drawing with ballpoint pen began for me.

Drawing with ballpoint pen is not a very forgiving medium to work with, and can be very time consuming. I find it rewarding and therapeutic, it helps me focus on life each day, to really be in the moment and take in the present.

Nature and birds are my inspiration, bright colours and cheeky personalities.
